The Great Story of Tsholofelo Lena Ngubeni

  1. Brief description of how you got to where you are in terms of your career (you can mention the struggles you went through)

As I was completing my Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Business Management in 2018 at Damelin Boksburg, I got an opportunity to publish my very first poetry book called The Plethora of Love Paradigms under The Global Destiny Publishing House, which was a wonderful opportunity and a great kick start to my writing career. I took it upon myself to go the Social Media Marketing route to get my name across to the masses and to source readers who are interested in poetry and the writing niche I am in. That being- Romance, Mental and Self Growth. The technique was very successful on Instagram as most of my buyers were sourced from the platform and my love for Social Media Marketing stemmed from there.

After graduating and obtaining my degree, I took it upon myself to learn more about Social Media Marketing and with more knowledge I was able to grow my social media accounts and a reader base. I was able to make connections with writers from across the globe and share ideas and insights. My love for writing and knowledge of social media marketing made a great combo that I was benefiting from and I thought, what more can I do with the knowledge I already have about this sub-industry?

Now not only am I a writer, but I am in the Social Media Marketing professional space and I have my own Youtube channel dedicated to the topic and giving insight on how the subject can be tackled by all entrepreneurs in various spaces looking to expand their customer base and to send their names across. I have not made it yet. The challenges are still there. A business that constantly demands for you to interact with people and convince people how well you are at what you do and how much they can leverage from that can be emotionally draining. The feedback is not always amazing and sometimes people do not have the time to listen to what you have to say. Another challenge, is learning as you go. Youtube needs consistency on the topic you initially introduced to the viewer so they can stay engaged and they are on your channel for the right reasons. With new trends being introduced everyday, it can be a bit difficult to stay afloat but we keep moving still.

Nonetheless, I am excited to see what my writing and social media marketing career has in store for me. So far it has opened doors for me and I do not see why I would want to give up now.

My Quote :When it comes to career, especially for those of us who have to document our journey because our industries and marketing techniques demand for us to be in the eyes of the people, we only show the nice parts and the moments worth the, “Congratulations!” but in all honesty, the journey is not and has not been that smooth.

  1. A brief advice you can give to people aspiring to be in your position.

A big advice I can give to those aspiring to be in my position is to keep the fire burning and to let their passion be their motivation instead of looking for role models. Let the picture of who you want to be and where you want to be, be your drive. Let the situation you want to change not be an obstacle that is holding you back, but a reminder of why you have to keep going. Last but not

least, do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do. Do not focus on trends. Some careers are given more emphasis and praise than the others, but that does not necessarily mean we will all make it in those particular careers and spaces. Specialise in what you are good at and polish your expertise in it everyday.
