My name is Jerminah Malatji, I am a graduate of Tshwane University of Technology.
I completed my Baccalaureus Technologie (B.Tech.) in 2013.
I started my career at the SABC in 2011, with the SABC News internship Programme from 1 February 2010 until 30 March 2012.
I was unemployed from April 2012 after my internship Programme was completed.
In September 2012, I got an opportunity to go back to SABC as a producer on a freelance contract.
I then joined the SABC 24hour News Channel when it was launched in 2013.
My main career highlights were producing a documentary on child headed households for Leihlo la Sechaba, which was aired on SABC 2.
And being part of the SABC team that produced the 2014 National and Provincial Elections and 2016 Local Government Elections.
I am currently studying towards a certificate in Small Business Management Professional Certificate.
What I can say to someone who aspires to be in the Journalism field?
When you choose to pursue journalism as a career, you need to have talent and passion to ride out the hard times.
Journalism is a doing field, you need to be able to talk to people and be able to communicate it in an engaging way.
Moreover, you need to be able to work independently. Journalists come up with the ideas, write, edit and report by themselves.
It takes independence, drive and attention to detail to succeed in this field and that can’t be taught in a classroom.
